This beautifully carved Indian antique door is from Gujarat and dates to the early 19th century. Constructed from teak wood these sturdy doors have beautiful, deep floral carvings flanked by corbels. These doors are truly a magnificent example of traditional Indian craftsmanship.
These doors are saved from buildings in India that have fallen into a state of disrepair and are no longer in a repairable state. As with most Indian doors, they would have originally operated on a pin and post system and not on hinges. At the top of the door, you can see a chain for padlocking the doors shut when leaving the home. The frame has been customised to allow for hanging with modern hinges. They would have originally opened inwards.
Although this is a heavy piece, Indigo Antiques has a trained delivery team to bring it into your home. We can provide assembly advice to your builders however we will need to discuss your hinge and hanging requirements before arranging delivery. Hinges may incur a small additional charge depending on your specifications.
