Large photo of Anglican women’s basketball team in uniform. The Captain is holding a basketball with the team name and year, trophy resting in front of them.

 

Rare photo. Only two other ones I found are in the collection of the McCord Museum, Montreal. Neither had the customized cardboard backing.

Photos and names of the 6 players, Coach, and Manager. Patch on front of uniforms says 'A Y P A 102'.

Photographer is ‘Wm. Notman & Sons’.

Mounted on thick cardboard backing, with names and title on cardboard.

Nick in photo right of Manager’s head. Smudges on photo. Cardboard backing has large crease UR corner, smaller crease LL corner, small ones two other corners. Foxing spots on cardboard.

William Notman (1826 – 1891) was a Scottish-Canadian photographer and businessman. The Notman House in Montreal was his home from 1876 until his death in 1891 and has since been named after him.

 

Notman was born in Paisley, Scotland, in 1826, and moved to Montreal in the summer of 1856. An amateur photographer, he quickly established a flourishing professional photography studio on Bleury Street, a location close to Montreal’s central commercial district.

 

At Notman's death, his eldest son and partner, William McFarlane Notman, inherited the company. When William McFarlane Notman died of cancer in 1913, his younger brother Charles assumed responsibility.
