Bond issued as financing for the 1889 Universal Exposition held in Paris. This Exposition is famous for one of its 'temporary' structures...the Eiffel Tower.

La loi du 6 juillet 1886 approuva une convention entre l’Etat, la ville de Paris et le gouverneur du Crédit foncier agissant pour le compte d’une association de garantie constituée spontanément par les grandes banques de la place, la chambre de commerce, les présidents des compagnies de chemins de fer,
plus d’éminentes personnes physiques au rang desquelles figure, à titre personnel, le trésorier-payeur général de la Vienne
L’association apportera les 18 millions complémentaires qui seront
remboursés en priorité sur les droits d’entrée ainsi que 3,5 millions
à titre de subvention. En contrepartie, l’association est autorisée
à émettre 1 200 000 bons à lots de 25 F. Cette émission au caractère
très exceptionnel mérite un commentaire particulier. Les
conditions sont surréalistes, les aspects « loterie » sont habituels à
l’époque ; en revanche, la durée (soixante-quinze ans) et
l’absence d’intérêts surprennent. Il est vrai que le souscripteur va,
en quelque sorte, bénéficier d’un double remboursement : à la
place des coupons habituellement attachés aux titres, chaque
bon est assorti de 25 tickets d’entrée à l’exposition d’une valeur
d’un franc et des tirages au sort durant toute la durée de l’émission
distribueront lots et remboursements au pair.
Interesting financing venture for the 1889 Universal Exposition, famous for one 'temporary' project, the Eiffel Tower. The principal was repayable over 76 years, with no interest. Each bond, instead of interest stubs, came with 25 entry tickets for the Exposition, worth 1 franc each. In addition there would be regular draws over the lifetime of the bond, with cash prizes. Issue was a resounding success.
