Political letter from the Member of Parliament for Nipissing, Joseph Raoul Hurtubise, to Mr. C. P. Smith, Secretary of the Federal Liberal Association (Nipissing) in North Bay.
Dated February 17, 1932.

Interesting political content: “…good idea of get-together of the Liberals of Northern Ontario…to reconquer most of the seats in our part of the country. We must realize that the North was always in great part liberals by conviction. And it is only when the provincial conservatives with its tentacles that is its organized patronage, got a hold on the people, that the seats became conservative. I have discussed your project with Hon. Peter Heenan and Jos. Bradette and they both share my view…”

Joseph Raoul Hurtubise (1882 – 1955) was a Canadian politician. He represented the riding of Nipissing in the House of Commons of Canada from 1930 to 1945. He was a member of the Liberal Party. Before entering politics, Hurtubise was a physician. He left electoral politics in 1945, when he was appointed to the Senate. He sat as a senator until his death in 1955.
The 17th Canadian Parliament was in session from September 8, 1930, until August 14, 1935. The membership was set by the 1930 federal election on July 28, 1930. It was controlled by a Conservative Party majority under Prime Minister Richard Bedford Bennett and the 15th Canadian Ministry. The Official Opposition was the Liberal Party, led by William Lyon Mackenzie King.
